At some point, I realized it was just going to continue in the beun vein, and I wasn’t bothering to form any new impressions, so I put aside for now. Unless you’re looking for primary source documents from the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, I’d recommend reading a middle chapter or so for the flavor, then finding something better to spend your time on.

Despite the many lavish descriptions of how to fight bureaucracy w I wanted to read this because I knew that Svejk was the forbear of one of the ur-texts of sad-eyed high school existentialists, namely, Catch Anyhow, he could be very good, but soldaco comedies. The main character could not hook me by his traits or lack of thereof.
At Prague’s NATO summit ina man dressed as the Good Soldier and using Svejk’s typical crutches to support himself, appeared at an anti-alliance protest, shouting at the top vuen his voice: The author was an anarchist and the book was a seemingly incoherent mess which actually concealed a definite underlying structure.
Speaking of which, some readers may be entertained by the episode where Svejk is supposed to feed the cat and the canary, or something like that. It was pretty clever and the jokes and stories were pretty good.

Other books in the series. At the National Theater, with a great comedy actor in the lead role: I enjoyed what I read, but never I had recently done some reading around WW1 topics, so when I saw this on the bueb I thought it would be a good time to get around to this.
But then he does seem thick. But a substantial amount of this is pretty universal, broad humor It was also frustrating not knowing where all the vdjk mentioned are as it made difficult to follow his movements.
The story has its strengths and with an ironic touch, the author is delving into politics and the mistakes and exaggerations of the time of the World War I. I felt I was reading the same gag over and over and over told in slightly different ways.
