None of these stories were cheery, they all have a melancholy sadness or loneliness about them and each of the peculiar creations are misunderstood and isolated. If you have a fondness for all things misbegotten AND find that fairy tales are not quite disturbing enough, you should have room in your heart for Melonhead and maybe even Jimmy, the Hideous Penguin Boy.

I love Tim Burton’s movies for their beautiful cinematography and sense of macabre muetre a pinch of dark humor. But probably because they reminded me of the Oyster boy that I was. The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Short Stories was full of quirky illustrations and a mixture of hilarious and morbid poems. I cuico feel like this book has great re-readability to it and I have no doubt that I will pick this up again someday to re-read and re-experience these sad little tales.

The one and only time I ever saw Toxic Boy cry was when some sodium chloride got lz his eye. Maybe Because they were made of gauze and match Or since they only stare and smile.
There are lots of gory things about eyes, stories of non-human children toxic, half robot, half oyster etc and a most inappropriate present from Santa.
When I was a little kid I never knew that he’s the one who built Wonka’s chocolate factory and said Beetlejuice thrice. And while the tone is sad, it’s still showing little slivers of happiness wherever we may find it. His wiry, but colour, illustrations, perfectly complement his dark words. Bad things happen to stick figures and little mummy boys.
